Best cellphone movie ever? ‘Splitscreen: A Love Story’

"Splitscreen: A Love Story" is a sweet, buzzed-about short film that's challenging how we see our cellphones' potential.

The two-and-a-half minute masterpiece was shot entirely on a Nokia N8 smartphone on a $5,000 budget.

Director JW Griffiths and Director of Photography Christopher Moon won the $10,000 grand prize at the Nokia Shorts 2011 competition.

Watch their winning love story, first screened at the Edinburgh Film Festival, below:

It cost $5000 dollars to make that?

Plane and bus tickets, maybe the phones too.

it was the cost of the trip they took, the lodging, food, renting the bike, etc... buying the steady hand thing he used, and then who knows what they used for final editing. No matter he got ripped off for the work he did whichever way one looks at it lol! How much are they going to make off of what they only paid him $5000 for?

        P.S:what costs $5000?

So he actually only won $5000, talking about breaking even lol. Sad really to go to that much trouble to make something that if Nokia uses in a big way will bring in far more than $5000. He got ripped off for his work simply! Better luck next time? :-0

Yes, but think about the spin off effect that this will have for the creators of this short video. They now most likely have jobs lined up with budgets far greater than $5000. It's also about creativity and the challange! Let's look beyond the immediate, Jennifer.

What do you mean breaking even? Breaking even is if he spends $5,000 and only won enough to cover his expenses.

He spent $5,000 making the film and won $10,000... which means the money he won paid for the film and he got $5,000 dollars in his pocket. Sounds like a good deal to me.
