Homeless man’s gift goes viral on Reddit

A homeless man named Tony is the newest Reddit celebrity, thanks to his sweet gift to a woman who befriended him.

Reddit user pmrhobo submitted the story of his sister — who wrote the story in first-person — and her homeless friend to the site.

"Tony is a homeless veteran who likes to hang out near where I work. Over the past few months we have become friends and always say hi when we see each other," she writes. "On certain days we eat lunch or have snacks together. Tony tells me about his war stories, loved ones, and who should win the Super Bowl. I tell Tony about my problems, loved one, and how I don't really care who should win the Super Bowl."

pmrhobo's sister adds that the past month was "one of the hardest ones to get through in my life and at times there really seemed as if there wouldn't be solace. Tony was there for me, listened each day as things got worse and surely pushed me to move forward and continue working toward my ambitions and dreams."

She shares that during this difficult time, Tony gifted her with a broken antique watch head.

He told her: "I don't have much but I wanted you to know that you have done what many others would not simply by being my friend."

The touching story went viral, with Redditors applauding both the young woman and Tony for their inspiring friendship.

"Please tell your sis that a random stranger on the internet thinks she's awesome," Redditor cal_mofo wrote.

"Make that several random strangers," added girly_fish13.

Some readers even shared their personal stories with homelessness:

"Formerly homeless, here. Every single time a "regular person" treated me like a human being, it was refreshing and heartwarming. I'm glad that Tony got the chance to touch your life, as I can confidently say that it probably meant a whole lot to him to be able to give back in some way," wrote Franco_DeMayo.
