"It struck a chord with a lot of people," Boddy told the Toronto Star. "A lot of people were saying they were that kid sitting alone in the cafeteria."

"I've had messages either through Facebook, email or twitter and some people were even teary eyed when they read that. They were either the person going up to the lonely kid in the cafeteria saying hello, or they were the lonely person in the cafeteria hoping that someone would come up and say hello to them," Boddy told CP24.

Boddy said that his experience working in schools inspired the tweet:

"You can tell some kids are very nervous, especially if it’s a new school."

One young student tweeted that she immediately benefited from Boddy's inspiring message:

Couric came across Boddy's tweet after a Toronto television station retweeted it.

"I appreciate seeing something positive in my Twitter feed – especially before my first cup of coffee! – and thought that this was a great message to share for kids and even us 'big kids,'" Couric wrote in an email to the Toronto Star.
