Luca ‘Lazylegz’ Patuelli teaches kids with disabilities to dance

Montreal breakdancer Luca Patuelli can't walk without his crutches, but he's winning breakdancing competitions and helping others along the way

Luca "Lazylegz" Patuelli was born with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita, a muscle disorder which affects his legs. He cannot walk without crutches.

That hasn't stopped the Montreal-born 29-year-old man from becoming one of Canada's most famous breakdancers. The b-boy even headlined at the 2010 Winter Paralympics opening ceremony in Vancouver.

Patuelli, who is one of five members in the international breakdancing group Ill-Abilities, now shares his passion with kids with disabilities at a Montreal rehabilitation facility.

"In life, anything can be possible — as long as we don't create any excuses along the way," he tells them.

"Whenever I have free time I try to visit the rehab centre and just spend some time with the kids," Patuelli tells CBC News, recalling his own childhood experiences at the hospital, where a volunteer clown's visits "were priceless because that distracted me from what I was feeling in the hospital."

Patuelli wants to teach kids to express themselves through dance, regardless of their physical limitations.

"Anyone can create a movement and make it theirs," he says. "It's all about adapting yourself."
