Mariachis serenade a ‘dancing’ beluga whale at a wedding

While many weddings have live music and dancing, few couples can claim a beluga danced at their reception.

At a July wedding at the Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut, Los Trovadores de America, a Harford-based mariachi group, entertained guests — and one very interested 1,400-pound beluga whale named Juno.

The writers at GOOD put it best: "Sometimes you have to step out of the way and let the video do its thing."

Enjoy.

Juno's trainers say he was trained to nod his head to visual cues. The up-and-down motions of the musicians' arms, the music's vibrations, and Juno's natural curiosity likely encouraged him to respond, not the music itself.

"This is the first time I ever heard of a mariachi band down by the beluga tank," Kelly O'Neil, a senior trainer, said. "I would strongly say he's never heard music like that before."
