Not a great deal of intelligence yet at hydro, when a few years ago Mr. Strong wanted to use Hydro Money to buy Brazilian Forests for Ecology Sake

most new innovations are presented as of great benefit to the consumer, and after all the media frenzy, joe blow finds it is going to cost him more.

it's all hoops of bullshit. do one thing out of place and your screwed. you'll never pay off the cost. 100,000 can buy the hydro you need for the rest of your life.

propose that we give people the choice, those that support green energy can sign up and pay 80 cents per kwh, others can remain paying 6 to 8 cents. The supporters would see a 1000 per cent increase in their bills. This seems more than fair and will allow those who support these initiatives to put their money where there mouth is

We have a similiar program in Saskatchewan, and i read an academic piece from a UofS grad student that did a feasibility study using the power needs of a 2.5 child nuclear family in a standard 1200 sq/ft bungalow... 14,000 when all is said and done with an averaged usage of about 70% of power used monthed and the rest stored in private fuel cells that are included in the 14,000 price tag. Utilities pay out quarterly cheques and outgoing meter is utility responsibilty. Sounds reasonable. Also, depending on demographic, the owner can expect a higher resale/ incentive to buy factor on the housing market. Demographic considerations relate directing to age... older people are reluctant to change!

First, Ontario Hydro must be cleaned up of all the very highly paid executives and like, or better still make it a public co-op and have members of public run the damn thing with the same common sense they run their own family affairs. Then they may see what is the best model for the public, Nuclear, Hydro, Coal or so called Green - Windmills, Solar, Wave, Geo-Thermo etc.

Green Green they say for the guy that pays the bill, Hey Hey I say, I'm the guy that pushes the plow. Now Now Parliment Hill says we'll all get a part of this thrill. No No the wise man says, it looks good to all, but really no good at all.

I anot very savvy about this new tech...I wonder: Are these solar panels easy to steal or disassemble? "They" even steal your electrical wires these days...Thanks for your reply!
      • ANDREW 8 months ago
They are bolted/screwed to your roof trusses, easy answer, they take 3-4 days to install, have 600volts running through them.....if you think you can steal them without anyone seeing or dying in the process...go ahead and try!

A fellow in Scarborough is doing this, and Ontario Hydro has him in court. He is in court because they claim what he is doing is illegal. It is illegal because he did not purchased the equipment from OPG.He followed the guide lines and the recommended products. But bought direct from US at 20% the cost.Thats right same parts but not purchased from OPG makes it a crime.
      • swiftgoose 8 months ago
Actually, the problem is that he bought fromt the US. He could buy from anywhere as long as 60% of the manufacturing was done in Ontario. Currently, only Ontario companies and Samsung (Korean company with Ontario plants) currently do that.

I am surprised that voters do not know what Dalton has been doing with our tax dollars. We pay green energy more than 8 times what we collect. We then produce too much energy and are forced to PAY the US to take our excess. This plan costs us $217,000 per resident in Ontario. We are on our way to going bankrupt as a province. The wealthiest Countries, Provinces etc have the best environmental programs. This is because they have the wealth before they develop the costly programs. It is not a coincidence that India, China etc have the worst levels of pollution. Voters need to boot Dalton out before its too late. It may be already, but lets hope we can recover from his reckless policy.

The green energy dollars affects an extremely small portion of Ontario's budget and is an attempt to encourage innovation and leadership. The real cost of Ontario's hydro infrastructure is a yoke that was hoisted on to us years ago and is perpetuated by artificially low energy costs. You seem to have convinced yourself that blue can rub the genie's lamp and like Bob & Doug expose all the gravy to save you billions. Bend over bud because you know where that rod is going.

Cjf, Better to build a new nuke for 5 billion? Go learn some economics before you pretend to be an expert on anything.

nuke is the best if you know how to manage

Too bad office buildings & apartment buildings couldn't incorporate solar panels into their roof construction. What a great way to offset the cost of electricity! And save money (in the long term) as well.

    • A Yahoo! User  •  8 months ago
It doesn't matter what spin is put on the Ontario Green Energy plan.the facts are eventually Ontario tax payers will pay much much much more for that solar and wind energy produced.
I have installed some and the initial installation costs are prohibitive over 50-60 thousand dollars plus and a considerable years for payback like over 10. Then there is the maintenance that people rarely discuss that really cuts the efficiency of energy output thus increasing the length of time to pay off the installation. Mr. McGintys plan to have only certain people involved has created a non competitive goldmine for a few suppliers thus costing Ontario residents 100's of millions more and sky high equipment costs. Anyone hear about the 407. Same deal some private offshore investors profit at Ontario consumers expense

Unfortunately. our government is not supporting CANADIAN companies. take a look at who they are backing and paving the way..companies like sanyo etc. Canadian companies are getting squished out by our own government , I think people should try to go with our Canadian companies first!
    • cjf  •  8 months ago
Interestingly, I keep posting a piece of a "Financial Post" article that talks about how Dalton's green energy is costing us 81 cents/kWh and it continues to get removed.
