At a South Carolina coffee shop, patrons pay for strangers’ drinks

Two years ago, a customer at Bluffton, South Carolina coffee shop The Corner Perk paid for her order, then left an additional $100. She told the staff she wanted to pay for everyone who came after her in line until the money ran out.

Every two or three months since, the anonymous woman has returned to Corner Perk to leave other generous donations.

"People will come in and say, 'What do you mean? I don't understand. Are you trying to buy me a coffee today?'" Corner Perk's owner, Josh Cooke, told WSAV TV. "And I say, 'No, somebody came in half an hour ago and left money to pay for drinks until it runs out.'"

The simple act of kindness has started to spread in the town of 12,000. Cooke says that more and more customers have been leaving money to pay for the orders of strangers — some visit the shop solely to donate money and leave again.
