Street slide guitarist ‘Nelly Niel’ gets a little help from YouTube star

Last month, guitarist and YouTube star Rob Chapman uploaded a video of an incredible street musician in Brighton, England.

Andrew "Nelly" Niel was picking away at his slide guitar on a street corner, wowing passers-by with his bluesy tunes.

Chapman's YouTube video of Niel was viewed more than 100,000 times, earning Chapman 80 British pounds (about $148 CAD).

Instead of pocketing the cash, Chapman returned to Niel's street corner and handed the money to its deserving owner.

Chapman then offered Niel something even greater: The opportunity to take control of his music career.

Chapman told Huffington Post that Niel had been a well-known music producer and engineer in the 90s. After a personal tragedy, his career began to suffer.

Chapman wanted to help him turn his life around. First, he offered to give him a guitar from his own line.

Then Chapman offered to help Niel set up a YouTube account of his own so that his music could gain greater exposure — and to help him make revenue from videos.

He also hooked him up with a Facebook page.

Even though he has yet to post a video, Niel already has more than 18,000 YouTube subscribers.
