Teen returns stolen money to elderly woman mugged by his father

An Oklahoma teen tried to right his dad's wrong this weekend.

At a Moore, Oklahoma, chuch on Sunday, Christian Lunsford, 15, met with Tona Herndon, an elderly woman his father allegedly mugged just days earlier.

He handed her $250, a sum of cash his father had recently given him to help pay for a band trip.

"When I found out this whole situation, I didn't know if [the money] was hers or his or how," Christian told News 9 of learning that his dad, Shane Lunsford, was arrested trying to use one of Herndon's credit cards.

"I just knew I needed to give the money to her."

Shane Lunsford, 39, allegedly mugged Herndon while she was visiting her husband's gravesite at the Bethany Cemetery. According to Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office records, he remains in custody.

"As the purse came off, I looked him right in the eyes and there was a look in his eyes," Herndon recalled. "It was a look of pain and my thought was ‘He doesn't really want to do this.'"

Christian told News 9 that his father has been in and out of prison several times during his childhood and that the two aren't close. Christian lives with his mother, step-father and two sisters.

Herndon received Christian's cash graciously — then she returned it to him.

"This is a very blessed family," Herndon told News 9. "I thank them so much for what they wanted to do, to make things right. That was wonderful."

"He gave and I received, and I gave and he received," she said of returning the teen's cash to him. "So it worked out."
