Television channel goes to the dogs

Feel bad for leaving your canine friend home alone all day? DOGTV might be the answer to those long boring stretches Fido must endure without you.

DOGTV, cable's first 24/7 TV channel for dogs features three types of programming
designed to help "stimulate, entertain, relax and habituate dogs with shows that expose them to various movements, sounds, objects, experiences and behaviour patterns, all from a dog's point of view."

    Television: the ultimate dog babysitter?

Videogum cheekily calls DOGTV, with its 3-to-6-minute clips, "a new breed of television."

Would your stay-at-home pup appreciate some just-for-dogs TV?

It depends on the breed of dog, my rotti cross watched tv and responded accordingly. Barking at animals, showing excitement and whining.

I love this idea! My dogs and cats love watching t.v.. I'll put on an animal movie or show just for them when I'm doing housework or something.
Heck, I once had a cat that loved Charles Curalt from Sunday Morning!!! When he heard him come on to do his bit near the end of the show, the cat would come running out of a bedroom to catch Charles. It was hilarious to watch! (Actually, in truth it was no doubt the video of flocks of birds, geese, ducks etc. after he was on that got to kitty, but it was Charles' voice that would prompt it)! LOL

I'll give it a try for sure!

My 2 year old Shitzu definitely watches TV, and god forbid if any animal comes on, he barks and practically leaps for the TV. If I could have a TV station with animal content only, I would certainly get it for my dog who basically sleeps all day while I'm at work.

this cant be in canada..not unless the CRTC got another kickback
      • Yaz 3 months ago
I think they manage circumventing the CRTC police by having the on-air dog personalities bark in both official languages.

How are they going to get any ratings? Will the dogs get Nielson boxes? Who will want to advertise? Dogs won't be doing the shopping. Or will they??

Good idea, considering how much most folks would LOVE to leave their TVs on 24/7, way to keep the cost of electricity down..........

Tell ya what,I'll give a crap when government offices unplug their computers and equipment every night and turn the lights off in every building. I happen to know for a fact that they leave computers on all the time.

Dogs see in black and white. Why broadcast in color?
      • Cat 3 months ago
Actually that's not entirely accurate. Its since been proven that they also see shades of yellow. They're not entirely colour blind the way we used to think.

I don't know what people see in little dogs. They shake and bark uncontrollably at everything. Most have little dog syndrome!

This is a terrible idea and will help put north america in an energy crisis. Think of all the extra strain on our electric grid caused by people leaving their TV and entertainment systems running all day. This channel could cripple our electric grid in the summer due to increased load during critical time periods. Thank you for the future blackouts DOGTV.

Well here is a stupid idea , lets see ... the dogs have their own tv channel , and the owners can waste $$ hydro $$ and burn out their plasma and lcd tv $$ screens life expectancy $$ Ya thats just what i want to do ( NOT !!!) RULE OF THUMB .. if you cant take care or give the time for an animal you dont deserve one !!
    • ordie  •  3 months ago
