A woman recently received a letter sent to her Greenwich Village, New York, apartment 70 years ago.

Abbi Jacobson decided to track down the sender and his wife, the intended recipient of the 1944 letter.

"A letter from Lt. Joseph O. Matthews was delivered to my apartment nearly 70 years after it was sent. It was addressed to Mrs. Joseph O. Matthews. I'm now trying to find both of them, or their relatives and finally deliver the letter," she wrote.

The letter was sent on December 2, 1944, from Camp Lejeune, a military training facility in Jacksonville, North Carolina.

With no substantial leads after contacting historical societies and visiting libraries, Jacobson launched the Lost Letter Project, hoping to connect the letter with the couple or their family members.

Here's how to help Jacobson with her search.
