Are we ready for a pot-smoking prime minister?

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau has never been shy about his opinions on marijuana — he's already on the record that if he becomes prime minister he won't just push to decriminalize pot, he'd legalize it.

His stance might be because he's imbibed in it.

Trudeau confessed to The Huffington Post that he's sampled marijuana in the past — in fact, as recently as three years ago, when he was already a sitting member of parliament.

“We had a few good friends over for a dinner party, our kids were at their grandmother's for the night, and one of our friends lit a joint and passed it around. I had a puff,” he told The Post.

Trudeau says he's smoked pot five or six times in his life.

“It has never really done anything for me,” he said in a follow-up email exchange with HuffPo. “When the joint went around the room, I usually passed it around to the next person. (But) sometimes throughout my life, I’ve had a pull on it."

It's not the first time a prominent politician has confessed to sampling pot, but Trudeau might be the highest-profile Canadian leader to indulge as a sitting MP. And in most cases, politicians dismiss their weed experimentation as youthful foolishness. Not so with Trudeau, who is now endorsing legalization of the drug should he claim the country's highest office.
