Sierra, the original publisher of the Leisure Suit Larry games, is remaking the original Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards with the intention of modernizing the interface, improving the graphics and bringing it to mobile devices.
Despite having gained back the rights to the series, though, publisher Replay Games is still looking for support to finance the game. It's set a goal of raising $500,000 on Kickstarter, and with almost a month left before the May 2 deadline, it's already raised nearly $200,000.
While there have been recent attempts to revive the character in the past, Larry's original developer, writer and designer Al Lowe is the driving force behind this latest project. Lowe's presence is also being used as a big incentive for people to donate money to the Kickstarter program.
Replay Games is offering some pretty impressive prices for those who are willing to donate big bucks to fund the new game:
"For $10,000, we'll create a memory that will last a lunchtime. You will be flown (domestic airfare only) to Seattle to enjoy lunch, dinner, or a morning-after breakfast with Leisure Suit Larry's Mommy's Baby Daddy, Mr. Al Lowe himself. He'll sign whatever you want him to sign (except IRS forms and blank checks), answer all your questions about life, tell you some dirty jokes, and, best of all, he'll do something that he's never done before in the history of the world: he'll pick up the check!"
The Kickstarter page also says the organizers will pay to put the $10,000 contributors up for the night in a hotel and give them all the goodies available at some of the lower tiers of donation. For those really, really big fans of the game, they also offer special rewards for people willing to donate $50,000 to the project. One lucky contributor can get their name included in the game as the secret password needed to complete the story, and others can get flown to Las Vegas to hang out with Lowe and writer Josh Mandel in style all weekend.
If Replay Games reaches its $500,000 goal, Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards: 25th Anniversary Edition will be available this September.
