Body found in southeast Edmonton considered suspicious

Edmonton police block off a road where a body was discovered Wednesday morning.

Edmonton police are investigating the discovery of body in a ditch in deep southeast Edmonton.

The discovery was made by a city employee who was spraying for mosquitoes along Meridian Street near Meridian Road just before 9:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The body is believed to be that of a man in his mid-20s.

“There are signs of violence to the body,” said police inspector Brian Nolan. “It does not not appear to have been there very long.”

Acting Staff Sergeant Warren Driechel says the case is classified as a suspicious death, but added that it is still very early in the investigation.

“I think the priority at this point is going to be to determine an identity,” says Driechel.

Homicide officers are now leading the investigation, and are going door to door looking for people with any information on the case.
