Bomb injury sends 20-year-old to hospital

A 20 year old Saskatoon man was taken to hospital with severe hand injuries after the pipe bomb he was attempting to build accidentally detonated.

The Saskatoon Police Explosive Disposal Unit and patrol officers responded to a home on Wentworth Crescent after Police, Saskatoon Fire and Protective Services and MD Ambulance all responded to a 9-1-1 call just after 8:30pm CST, Friday evening.

Another 20 year old man was in the basement when police arrived. He was also injured in the explosion.

The scene of the blast was secured and police made sure no other explosive materials were left at the home.

Police do not know why the man was making the bomb, but they are investigating.
