Christmas With The King

Elvis may be gone, but the spirit of his music lives on in Rory Allen.

The tribute artist has performed all over the world and earned him a loyal following.

Now it's time for the big holiday show. Allen is bringing a 12-piece band and they'll play all the favourites.

From Peace in the Valley to Blue Christmas it's your chance to sing along to all the songs Elvis made iconic this time of year.

There's a couple of shows, Friday and Saturday night at Casino Regina.

Solstice Celebration

It's a major day for our calendar year so why not mark it with a part?

The Winter Solstice is the day where the sun is at its lowest point in the sky and we see the least amount of daylight.

That means there's nowhere but to go but up from here as the days will start to get longer.

St. Michael's Retreat is holding its annual Celebration of Winter Solstice.

There will be crafts, storytelling and music, as well as hot soup and a bonfire.

It's all happening at St. Michael's Retreat near Lumsden on Saturday.

Cool Yule

It's one of those underground shows that is now pretty mainstream.

Red Hot Riot has become Regina's premiere evening of comedy.

This weekend Jayden Pfeifer will celebrate the season with a Christmas show.

The musical guest for this show is Broletariat, a men's choir from Regina that specializes in a barbershop sound.

All the fun is happening at the Artesian Saturday night.

Kitchen Party in the Bassment

There's nothing like getting together with friends at Christmas time and that's exactly what fiddler Karrnnel Sawitsky is up to this weekend.

Sawitsky moved to Toronto a while back and he's been out touring with The Fretless.

But Sawitsky has not forgotten about his home and he's back for the holidays.

Sawitsky has some pretty talented buddies: Jake Charron will be on guitar, banjo and piano, Hal Shrenk will be on the drums, and guest vocalist Amy Matysio will also entertain the crowd. I hear she plays a mean tambourine.

Karrnnel & Friends will play the Bassment Friday night.

Christmas Tradition

They've been going strong for more than 40 years and the public comes back every Christmas to hear the Fireside Singers.

This year's performance will feature the choir and orchestra led by Bonnie Nicholson.

This choir is 115 -singers strong and will be accompanied by guest musicians Guy Few and Allan Harrington.

Audiences can expect a combination of traditional carols and spiritual hymns.

Tickets go fast for this one so it's a lucky thing there are a pair of shows.

It's all happening at TCU Place Friday and Saturday nights.

Puppet Pageant

They're stuffed, dressed and ready to party.

The puppets of Wide Open Children's Theatre are back in action this weekend for their very special holiday show.

This one has been written by local playwright Charlie Peters.

Wide Open Christmas features guest appearances by favourite characters, sing-a-longs and of course a few puppet catastrophes.

As usual with Wide Open there are half hour and one hour shows to choose from (depending on your little ones' attention spans).

All the fun is happening Friday to Sunday at the Refinery.
