A bus driver who lusted after a passenger for six years is finally set to walk her down the aisle.

Jarrod Spedding, 43, said he “used to get butterflies” when he saw Charlene Liversidge, 33, waiting to embark on his Witch Way X43 bound for Manchester.

The couple from Burnley said that after spending years exchanging friendly glances aboard the love bus, they finally went on a date.

And more than three years later, the couple are planning their dream overseas wedding.

“I used to write my phone number on her bus pass,” said Jarrod, who has worked for bus company Transdev for 11 years. “Eventually, five or six years on, we met up on a night out and hit it off. The rest is history.”

Charlene added: “I didn’t know his name, but whenever I saw him I would tell the girls at work. Now we’re engaged and planning our wedding, it’s just surreal.”

The happy couple celebrated their engagement with an appropriate bus-shaped cake.

“It was my idea to have something that represented how we met, it’s part of our story. It was a real talking point,” said Charlene.

Richard Jackson, development director at Transdev which runs services in and around Burnley, Pendle, Blackburn, Darwen and Hyndburn, said: "Everybody at Transdev is very happy for Jarrod and Charlene and we wish them a wonderful future together.”
