Losing a wedding ring can be stressful situation, but there’s one Calgarian who can bring that special piece of jewelry back home.
Kevin Niefer is making a living as a ring detective. He’s armed with many metal detectors which allow him to easily find rings for couples who have mistakenly lost them.
“They're in a panic and if you don't sometimes get out there and find it right away, you might not find it,” Niefer explains.
Just last week, Niefer got a call from a Calgary couple.
Will Hoff had lost his wedding ring in the Wiaparous River, near Cochrane.
After about an hour of searching in a fast moving, rocky river, Neifer does the unthinkable and finds the ring.
"Are you freaking kidding me," Hoff said moments after he saw his ring.
Niefer says he could make a lot of money doing this, but says he isn't in this for the money.
“When you find it and people go ‘Oh no! I can't believe you found it!,’ That's pretty exciting, right and to be able to return something that sentimental, that's the biggest reward,” Niefer said.
