Calgary police homicide detectives are investigating what could be the city's first murder of the year.
At 9:15 a.m. Saturday, police received a 911 call from someone outside an Erin Woods home in the southeast. The caller indicated there was a break-in in progress.
When police arrived at the home, they found a man dead inside. His three roommates are now in custody.
Police said part of their investigation includes reports of shots being fired, although they wouldn't say how the man died.
One man who lives across from the home in the 100 block of Erin Circle said he heard what sounded like gunshots at about 9 a.m.
"It was so rapid, it was like within two seconds,” said Payam Jafari.
He said it's a group of roommates in their 20s, three men and one woman, who live in the house. While Jafari said he's never had problems with them before, another neighbour Jon Verkuyl disagreed.
"I see a lot of people coming and going from there,” he said. “I've heard a lot of wild parties over there."
Both men agreed the event is shocking.
"We think it's pretty crazy, we just want to be safe," said Verkuyl.
