A Calgary woman has pleaded guilty to brutally beating a bulldog last March.
Under the Animal Protection Act, May Yee Polegato faces a $5,000 fine and 10-year ban on owning or caring for an animal.
“This was a violent act that could have garnered incarceration, however, the fine is one of the highest we have ever seen for a single animal offense,” said Brad Nichols, protection and investigations department head with the Calgary Humane Society.
The dog named Jinx was badly injured after it was repeatedly hit with a blunt object.
The Humane Society says Jinx is happy living with his new owner, his wounds have healed but he still has severe scarring.
