Canada Post holiday mail deadline is today for cards, next week for parcels
Canadians who have holiday cards and parcels to send had better do it quickly.
Canada Post is racing to keep up with a surge of holiday mail in the final week before Christmas. Friday marks the last day you can send a card to someone in the local area and Canada Post will guarantee it'll be delivered by the 25th.
You can still send packages anywhere as late as Dec. 23, though you'll have to pay a bit more for it.
At a postal sorting facility in Toronto, all of the machines are humming.
"It's so busy, you can hear the sound all around you," said Canada Post's Daria Hill, at the sorting facility. She said much of the mail being moved through the building on conveyor belts is the result of online shopping.
"It's all due to the online growth we're seeing," she said.
Canada Post says this is a record-breaking year, with three million more parcels being shipped this year than in 2013.
"It's wild this year. This is the best year we've had so far," said Steve Hughes, who works seven days a week delivering packages.
Canada Post officials said their operations will be working 24/7 in the next week to make sure Christmas mail is delivered in time.
