Car fire in garage forces hotel evacuation
A car fire forced the evacuation of a Calgary hotel for several hours early Thursday morning.
Fire crews were called to Hotel Arts on 12th Avenue and First Street S.W. at about 3:30 a.m. MT.
Crews found a vehicle parked in the underground garage on fire and quickly put it out.
Because thick black smoke was filling the parkade, about 140 guests and staff were moved to a building across the street until crews were certain it wasn't spreading into the hotel.
People were allowed back in to the hotel at around 6:00 a.m. MT after the garage had been ventilated.
