The City of Winnipeg will close the books on 2011 with a surplus of more than $3.6 million.
According to a report released Tuesday, the city was already $3.6 million in the black at the end of November.
And that will only get better when the December figures are tallied, said Coun. Scott Fielding, who chairs the city's finance committee.
"There's some money for mosquitoes, which we saved without fogging [last summer]. For our December snow-clearing budget, obviously there wasn't very much snow, so we were able to save some money there, too," he said.
"So there definitely will be a pick-up beyond the $3.6 million."
The surplus will be applied to this year's operating budget, which Fielding and other members of the mayor's cabinet are now working on.
It will be unveiled in late February.
