A New Brunswick man was killed Tuesday when two tractor-trailers crashed on the Cobequid Pass, east of the toll booths.
Nova Scotia RCMP said the crash near Exit 11 was reported at 7:30 a.m.
Officers found the two trucks blocking the westbound lanes of the highway.
They said it appeared that one 18-wheeler tractor trailer, driven by a 61-year-old Enfield, N.S., man, had been parked on the side of the highway.
A second 18-wheeler, driven by a 61-year-old Dieppe, N.B., man, rear-ended the parked tractor trailer.
The cab of the moving tractor trailer burst into flames, claiming the life of the Dieppe man.
The names of the victim has not been released.
There is no word on the condition of the other man.
Conditions were foggy at the time of the collision. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Firefighters, police and paramedics remain at the scene.
The westbound lanes of the highway are closed and traffic is being diverted at Exit 12, at Masstown. RCMP said the highway will likely be closed until Wednesday morning.
