Cocaine was 'noxious substance' administered to woman, man appears in court

A man who was arrested on charges of administering a noxious substance appeared in provincial court in Corner Brook on Thursday.

34-year old Raymond Moores from Flower's Cove appeared before the judge via teleconference with St. John's.

He was charged with administering a noxious substance — cocaine — confining a 20-year-old woman, uttering threats and assaulting her.

Moores also faces charges of possession and drug trafficking.

Police arrested Moores on September 26 after finding a woman, 20, wandering outside a home in Flower's Cove during the early morning hours.

She was taken to hospital in St. Anthony where she lost consciousness and was subsequently admitted to the ICU.

Police say the two had recently met.

CBC News has learned these are not the only charges against Moores.

On August 21, near Deer Lake, Moores was charged with confining the same woman and administering cocaine to cause bodily harm. He was also charged with criminal negligence.

The 20-year-old woman was released from hospital this morning. Police said she is with her mother and is doing well.

Moores will remain in custody. A bail hearing for all charges is set for October 7.
