Cody Russell, charged with 2nd-degree murder, appears in court

The North Sydney, Cape Breton, man charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of another man this week made an appearance in court Friday.

Cody Alexander Russell is charged with killing Stephen Tyler Chisholm, 25.

At his Friday court appearance, Russell looked battered and had two black eyes and bruises on his face.

Chisholm was stabbed at a home on Clifford Street in North Sydney shortly after midnight on Sept. 29.

Police say the victim had life-threatening stab wounds and was pronounced dead at Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Police say 15 minutes after the first call, they responded to reports of a second male, who they say was Russell, suffering from stab wounds outside a home on King Street.

They say the accused was also transported to hospital with serious injuries, which were later determined to be non-life-threatening.

Police say they arrested Russell Thursday evening.

The two men knew each other and were involved in an altercation.
