Cold, blowing snow slows traffic and creates accidents
A big drop in temperature overnight along with high winds made for a cold and snowy start to the day on Tuesday.
Calgary police reported 14 injury and 116 non-injury collisions between midnight and 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Visibility on the roads was reduced to less than one kilometre at times on Tuesday.
The ski hill at Canada Olympic Park will close at noon and reopen on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. MT, says WinSport Canada which operates the park.
Snow flurries are expected to continue on Wednesday but the temperature will climb to – 9 C.
The blowing snow warning has ended for Calgary.
Jessica Gray, who runs a dog walking service in Calgary, says this is the kind of day when dogs will need some extra protection.
"If you've got a big warm sweater for your dog on a day like this, or maybe a jacket that's a windbreaker as well and your dog doesn't mind wearing it, it's a good thing," says Gray.
She adds however, this is a good day to cut the walk short.
