Tolerating the current deep freeze is one thing, but some Edmontonians are actually happy about it.
“As long as you dress for it, the weather’s fine,” smiled Amber Kruger, strolling Old Strathcona with hot chocolate in hand. “Now we can snowboard and ski, and we’ve got to walk the dog anyway, so we might as well enjoy it.”
Construction worker Chad Desaulniers isn’t as pleased about the plunge in temperatures, saying it’ll be mostly indoor work at his job site this week.
“It’s invigorating if you keep moving. I definitely need snow pants, though,” he said.
Randy Loyk, the Alberta Motor Association’s technical services manager, said Tuesday was the busiest day this winter, with 1,000 calls for a boost, tow or tire change.
“Whenever there’s a cold snap, people are caught off guard,” he said. “Plug in vehicles and don’t lock your keys in the car.”
“I wasn’t sure I’d get a chance to use my new snow blower this year,” said Lynden Richards, clearing snow from his front walk. “I can’t say I hate this weather, but I did like it better last week.”
Environment Canada predicts temperatures of around -8 C by next week.
