Construction behind delayed opening of Exploits Valley High
A case of the renovation blues is delaying the reopening of Exploits Valley High School in Grand Falls-Windsor.
The building is in the midst of a $12 million overhaul that includes the electrical and plumbing systems.
Newfoundland and Labrador English School District CEO Darrin Pike said while the gymnasium has been completed, there is still a lot of work to be done.
Pike said a new electrical panel has to be installed and tested, and construction will continue after classes start.
"So, it's not one thing. The electrical is probably the biggest piece to it. But there's a number of other small items that have to be there, so that when the students arrive, while they're still into a redevelopment project, it's safe for them," Pike told CBC.
Pike said the opening could be delayed another couple of days, and added that teachers will have plenty of time during the rest of the school year to make up the lost time.
The board is aiming to have the school open by Sept. 8.
