Cop Comes Face-To-Face With Man Who'd Stolen His ID During Routine Check

A Colombian cop randomly came face-to-face with the man who’d stolen his ID during a routine check.

Officer John Harold Puello Polo was reviewing the ID cards of passengers on board a Caribbean coast bus last week when he spotted that one traveller had the exact same name as him.

He was then stunned to find that he also had the exact same citizen ID number.

The date and place of birth were also identical, according to El Heraldo.

The only differences between the cards of the officer and the impostor were the blood type, height and photograph.

The impersonator, aged between 29 to 31, was arrested alongside another man who also allegedly had fake documents.

During questioning, the wannabe Puello Polo reportedly confessed to actually being from Cuba.

And he claimed that he’d bought the ID card for $5,000 after arriving in Ecuador several weeks previously.

The investigation into the duo continues, and police are now deciding whether to deport the pair, according to local media.

Their real names have not been revealed. The bus was travelling from Barranquilla to Cartagena.
