Coroner's report on Ornge air ambulance examines deaths
Ontario's chief coroner will release a report today into the deaths of people who were transported by Ornge, the province's air ambulance service.
A panel of experts was brought together to determine whether Ornge played a role in any of the deaths.
The review was launched after the release of cabinet documents that showed the government investigated 26 deaths involving Ornge over a six-year period.
The probe looked at 145 incidents, including delays in dispatching air ambulances, paramedics unable to perform CPR due to cramped conditions in the helicopters, staff shortages and paramedics running out of supplies such as oxygen and medication.
The chief coroner who ordered the review, Dr Andrew McCallum, has since left the job to become head of Ornge.
Ornge has been the subject of intense scrutiny in the past year for the management of its finances and the hefty $1.4-million compensation given to former chief executive Chris Mazza.
