Couple Turn Back Of White Van Into Dream Home After Getting Fed Up With Renting

A young couple fed up with rent bills using up all of their money have now moved into their dream home - in the back of a VAN.

Adam Croft, 29, and Nikki Pepperell, 32, bought a beat up old white van and spent a year converting it into their new home.

And with no rent or mortgage to pay, they finally have money to spare at the end of the month.

Their new home features everything you’d expect - a kitchen, toilet, shower, windows, new flooring, a sofa, a porch and a bedroom.

The couple, from Stroud, Glos, spent £3,5000 on the extra-large Ford Transit Luton and another £6,500 doing it up while they lived with their parents.

They now intend to give up their jobs and travel across Europe - and they may never return.

Adam, who finished the project last week, said: “The main idea behind it is that we found it far too expensive to rent here.

"It was also so we could go away in the winter without being tied down.

"Pretty much all of our wages were going.

At the end of the month, once we had paid for the running of the car and living costs, we wouldn’t really be left with anything.

"We were thinking about how we could live without struggling - it was a joint idea.

"It was one of those things we had been talking about. There were a few points when we thought ‘is this a good idea?’”

The pair went to New Zealand last year and when they got back in June they spent a week living on a boat.

The sense of freedom that lifestyle brought them inspired them to have their own portable home - and they have spent the past year fixing it up whenever they could afford to.

Landscape gardner Adam explained: “We did it completely ourselves. I haven’t done any building work and it was the first time Nikki had picked up a drill.

"It was just about getting on with it, watching YouTube videos and learning as we went.”

The pair struggled to work on the van through winter because of the rain but now the project is finally complete and they have already spent a few nights in their new home.

They now plan to sell their belongings and head off to Europe in the next few weeks.
