Fire destroys auto repair shop near Hampton

A fire has destroyed an auto repair shop in Lower Norton, near Hampton, N.B.

First responders received a 911 call around noon Sunday that the shop was engulfed in flames.

No one was inside the building when the fire broke out.

It took about three hours for crews from the Hampton, Kennebecasis Valley, Belleisle and Nauwigewauk fire departments to put out the blaze.

Deputy Chief Mike Raeburn said the building is a total loss. There were no other structures near the shop that were at risk, but a few cars parked near the building were damaged from heat exposure

"The flames were up through the roof upon arrival," Raeburn said.

The shop actually belongs to Raeburn's brother.

"That's what you dread as a firefighter to get a call for family. The main thing is nobody was injured."

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
