Curtis Wilson missing near Vernon after friend found dead in lake

RCMP in Vernon, B.C., are searching the Kalamalka Lake area for 24-year-old Curtis Wilson after the body of the Lethbridge, Alta., man's companion was found in the lake on Sunday.

Police have identified the deceased man as 32-year-old Shane Letkeman, who was also from Lethbridge.

Investigators determined Letkeman's death is not suspicious, according to Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy.

"During the police investigation into this matter, it was determined that Shane Letkeman was last known to be with Curtis Wilson," she said.

Police found a black car associated to Wilson in the Cosens Bay area of Kalamalka Lake, near where the body was discovered.

'We are very worried'

Wilson's family last heard from him on Saturday night, according to his sister Shanna Wilson.

"I don't know what to think at this point," she said. "We are very worried obviously."

Wilson doesn't know what her younger brother was doing in the Vernon area, but said on Saturday Curtis told his girlfriend he was planning to return to Alberta.

"He is very involved with his family. He loves his nieces and nephews and stuff. It is out of character for him not to call and tell us that he is OK," she said

Wilson and other family members are travelling to Vernon to look for her brother.

RCMP officers are searching the Kalamalka Lake area using ground, water and air resources.
