Dad Battles Giant Alligator That Tried To EAT His Son

A dad of a teenage boy thought nothing of his own safety as he jumped into the water to fight an alligator that attacked his son.

James Hurley launched himself onto the eight-foot reptile after it grabbed 13-year-old Kaleb Hurley’s arm and pulled the teen under water.

The pair had been cooling off from the heat in a lake in Wallisville, Texas, USA, after a fishing trip when the alligator struck.

Mr Hurley himself was bitten on the leg by the alligator during the attempt to save his son.

The animal only released its grip after the boy’s father kicked the animal into submission and the pair escaped to dry land.

Mark Ford, the teenager’s grandad, witnessed the whole incident.

He said: “Kaleb told his mother something had a hold of him.

"When we figured out what was going on, the alligator jerked Kaleb away from him.

"His dad and I got a hold of Kaleb and got him away from the alligator.”

The boy and his dad were flown to a nearby hospital where they are recovering from their injuries.

Both are said to be in a serious but stable condition.

Paramedic Ovielo Ocanas praised the actions of Mr Hurley, saying: "He did something I would do as a father myself. My hats off to him.

"He went and defended his son.”

It is thought the alligator may have been trying to protect its nest.
