Daughter calls for Fort Resolution RCMP officer to be removed

A woman in Fort Resolution, N.W.T., is calling for an RCMP officer to be removed from the community after he allegedly elbowed her 71-year-old mother in the face.

RCMP are investigating the Sept. 20 incident, but not naming the officer.

Margo Edjericon says an officer elbowed her mother in the face and pinned her against the wall when two officers came into the house looking for a young woman.

Edjericon wants to know why the officer is still working in the community.

“We asked and there's still nothing being done,” she says. “I know some people are working on the other end. I'm hoping that they get back to me this week and find out why this cop is still working in our community or anywhere until this is all settled."

Edjericon says she told the two officers that the person they were looking for was in the house but was sleeping and she told them to come back later.

She says officers from Yellowknife were at her house yesterday questioning her and her mother.

Edjericon says they asked her mother to sign a form to release her medical records.

She says they also interviewed her mother alone, and that's a problem because her mother is hard of hearing.
