Dawson Creek RCMP are investigating several allegations of sexual assaults involving a taxi company.
Mounties say they received a complaint on Jan. 25 that a 13-year-old girl was allegedly lured into a taxi and promised a free ride home.
The victim reported to police that she was locked inside the taxi and sexually assaulted by the cab driver. Police say the suspect has not been determined in this case.
Police say several other victims of similar alleged incidents have been identified, which date as far back as October 2011 in Dawson Creek.
A suspect in one of the cases was identified and has been arrested for sexual assault and forcible confinement. Police say charges are pending against a 55-year-old man.
The RCMP have issued a search warrant at the office of Golden Cabs, one of only two companies in Dawson Creek, and are in the process of interviewing more witnesses.
“This is a priority investigation and we are dedicating the resources necessary, along with working with our colleagues in Alberta, including Grand Prairie,” said Staff-Sgt. Milo MacDonald in a statement. “We ask the public to call us with any information they may have.”
Dawson Creek RCMP are requesting that if any person has information
regarding any sexual assault, forcible confinement, or other illegal or
irregular activity by a taxi driver to contact the Dawson Creek RCMP
at 250-784-3700, Grand Prairie RCMP at 780-830-5734 or Crime Stoppers
