A trust fund has been set up for a Delta, B.C., father who was struck and killed by a speeding driver allegedly evading police in Langley on Monday night.
Victor Melo Duarte, 47, was driving through the intersection of 16th Avenue and 240th Street in Langley on Monday afternoon when his car was struck by a vehicle that had allegedly fled a police traffic stop just minutes before.
The father of two was killed in the crash. The driver of the other car was arrested at the scene, and the Independent Investigations Office was called in to investigate because of the police involvement in the incident.
Duarte's former boss Alessandra Quaglia, who owns Provence restaurants in Vancouver, has set up the trust fund to help his wife and two children, aged 12 and 14.
"It really could have been anyone. Just was at the wrong place at the wrong time and he didn't deserve to go that way. I just can't believe...I'm still in shock...shock at what happened," she said.
People wanting to donate to the fund can do so at any Royal Bank of Canada.
