Does Harold Camping Foresee the World Ending in 2012?

The year 2011 has flown by without a hitch … or, at least, without Earth bursting into flames. Radio evangelist Harold Camping's famous pair of prophecies — his prediction that true Christians would be safely evacuated to heaven on May 21, and that a series of global cataclysms would then climax in a grand, Earth-shattering finale on Oct. 21 — seem to have flopped.

Yes, it looks as if we'll make it to 2012 after all. But what then?

Camping himself doesn't have much to say on the subject. After the crash-and-burn of his Oct. 21 endtimes prediction , the 90-year-old minister retired from Family Radio Network — the Christian talk show he co-founded in 1958 — and stepped away from the limelight. According to Susan Espinoza, a Family Radio spokeswoman, Camping "is not predicting any new dates for the end of the world."

Espinoza explained that Camping had been certain of the accuracy of his 2011 prophecies. "He believed the Bible taught very definitely that the Rapture would occur on May 21, 2011 , and the end of the world on October 21. Because that did not happen, he is rethinking what God is teaching us about those dates, and what we should be doing now," she told Life's Little Mysteries

"He does not feel inclined to search for any new dates." [Doomsday Facts (or Fictions )]

One thing is guaranteed, however: Camping will not be jumping on the bandwagon with people who believe the world will end on Dec. 21, 2012 — the date that supposedly marks the end of the Mayan calendar cycle. "Mr. Camping does not believe the Mayan calendar holds any significance at all," Espinoza said in an email.

The guy is a crackpot, true. But the only reason he gets so much attention is because people like busting on Christians, as if we all believe this guy. The Bible has been right about everything so far so I'm goin with that. The rest of it will happen also but nobody knows when. Just live your life and keep your faith. Don't be in such a rush, things will end when they end. We all still exist forever and if you know Jesus you got nothing to worry about.

very convenient for people to think that if you believe in Christ you will be taken up to heaven when it all hits the fan. If there is anything I know about Jesus, it is that it is up to us to get us out of our own mess and to better ourselves on our own.

Because the world is flat, and you might fall over the edge if you get to the end of it.

Harold Camping is a misled fool. The bible does not reveal a date, contrary to Camping's guess. Why does the media continue to even report his doings??? pick a fool off the street and make headlines about that person and their status. Camping holds no interest for me. Nor does any other fool off the street. Journalist need to spend more time doing something productive.

We should be reading about him being on trial for fraud. Why did he want everyone to send him all their money if the world was ending? He didn't try to spend it all before his end date. Was he saving for a rainy day?

The Bible tells no story of such an event. Neither does the word "rapture" appear anywhere in the Bible. The rapture is a man made fable constructed (during the past few hundred years) from dozens of little snippets that have been taken completely out of context and pasted together. One could do the same to make the Bible say almost anything they want it to say.

As for when the "end time" will come, 2 Peter 3:10 "But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night..." Simply meaning, no one knows WHEN the day will arrive. This verse is NOT a reference to Christ stealing all the Christians away to heaven.

You are correct about 2 Peter 3:10 having nothing to do with the "rapture" as it is popularly known. But I would advise you to read I Corinthians 15, verses 51 and 52, then I Thessalonians 4, verses 16 and 17. These verses both describe the event in question, and well within their respective contexts. Verify this by reading the whole chapter.

As for Harold, had it wrong, as does anyone who tries to nail down a date. But the absense of the word "rapture" from scripture doesn't mean the event is not described there. "Manslaughter" also doesn't occur anywhere in the bible, but the act is described in the law of Moses. Likewise, "Homosexuality" does not occur as a word, but the act is spelled out in both the old and new testaments.

Not picking a fight. Just sayin'.

These verses describe Jesus' second coming. Continue reading and you will see that it is not a 'secret' rapture. Yes the dead and the living who are counted as Christ's followers are raised and taken to heaven with him. The remainder however are destroyed by the brilliance of his coming and not left alive to contemplate their wrongdoings for the next 7 years as is taught in the secret rapture teachings. The bible says that when Jesus comes there will be an earthquake as has never been seen before; the elements will melt away; islands will disappear ... Obviously there will be nothing secret about it.

I'm sending Mr. Camping a coupon for $500, towards a Plasectomy. He can redeem it at his local surgeons office. The proceedure is simply. They will cut out a 7" x 7" square in his stomach, and implant a clear piece of plastic, so that when he has his head up his A@#, he will be able to see where he is going.

The Bible makes it clear that the 2nd Coming has already occurred, and it occurred when the Bible said it would, in the first century AD.....The philosopher Bertrand Russell also knew the Bible said it would occur in the 1st century.
