    Ducana Windows files for bankruptcy

    CBC News has confirmed Ducana Windows filed for bankruptcy Jan. 6.

    According to records obtained from the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy Canada, the company declared liabilities of more than $5 million and assets of a little more than $1.4 million.

    Ducana has not returned calls from CBC News.

    It's unknown what will happen to the people who worked at the Tilbury factory or the company's five showrooms stretching from Windsor to Kitchener. The did not re-open after a holiday break.

    Brenda Parker of LaSalle paid Ducana a $2,200 deposit on five windows last month. Parker said she had no inkling Ducana was in trouble.

    "The deposit [is] the biggest issue, but the second issue being that we're working with the home energy grant so we're on a timeline in terms of getting the work in our house completed," she said. "I'm upset about it. I have not made any decision about what I'm going to do at all.

    "Until I have more information and see where things stand, I honestly don't know what to do."
