Severed head found in Edmonton not random violence, say police

A man whose severed head was found in a bag in a northeast Edmonton alley earlier this week is the victim of a homicide that wasn't a random act of violence, police said today.

RCMP Insp. Gerry Scott gave more details of the killing while speaking to reporters at a news conference Friday morning.

The head was discovered in a ditch near Ranfurly, Alta., last Saturday.

However, police are not releasing the name of the victim or how he was killed.

Edmonton police discovered the head in a garbage bag in a back alley near 132nd Avenue and 72nd Street in the Balwin neighbourhood Wednesday.
