The Youth Emergency Shelter Society in Edmonton says it's financial situation is grim, after the Christmas fundraising campaign fell far short of it's $1-million goal.
The society raised just over $600,000 so now is looking at cutting costs.
Two full-time staff positions, which were vacant, have been eliminated, but other non-front-line jobs could be cut along with services, said executive director Deb Cautley.
"We may be looking at cutting hours for our youth centre which provides day-time programming for kids that have no where else to go," she said.
"They may be kids that are staying in our shelter program during the evening or overnight or even some of them that are still living in the (adjacent) ravine."
Last year, the shelter helped about 3,000 teenagers through its various programs, said Cautley who's hoping the society will be able to make up the Christmas campaign shortfall in a fundraiser planned for March.
