Efficiency NS audit gives mostly thumbs up to agency

The Utility and Review Board has released the findings of an audit it ordered of Efficiency Nova Scotia and the results were mostly positive.The audit was ordered this fall after some contractors complained that Efficiency Nova Scotia was only working with a select group of companies to carry out its home energy assessments and programs for low-income earners. This was a concern echoed by the Board.However, the audit did not substantiate those claims. KPMG found the agency has effective controls and processes in place and performance is monitored.The audit did say Efficiency Nova Scotia needs to do a better job of giving more contractors the opportunity to do work for it.Nova Scotia Power ratepayers spend millions every year to underwrite Efficiency Nova Scotia’s costs.One of the people who lodged the original complaint against Efficiency Nova Scotia says he is pleased the audit was carried out.“We feel our concerns have been heard and a number of recommendations for change have been put forward to facilitate more contractor participation,” said Chuck Ross, the president of National Foam Supply in a statement.
