The workers who install elevators and escalators in Newfoundland and Labrador are on strike.
Their contract with elevator companies Otis and ThyssenKrupp expired in July.
Art Careen, a union leader with the International Union of Elevator Constructors.said negotiations have gone nowhere since the summer.
"Two weeks ago, the companies called back and said they weren't interested in doing no more negotiations," said Careen.
"We're available to negotiate if they want. But when we made our last call to them, they weren't interested in doing any more talks," he said.
Careen said the companies want concessions such as lower pay for new employees.
The union has 19 members in St. John's and Corner Brook.
