    Elvis Costello, k.d. lang join Ottawa Jazz Fest

    The likes of Robert Plant, Elvis Costello and k.d. lang are coming to the capital for this year's TD Ottawa Jazz Festival, event organizers announced on Wednesday.

    Plant, best known as the lead vocalist of the seminal rock band Led Zeppelin, will open the 31st annual event this summer with his Band of Joy, bringing with him soundscapes that draw upon jazz, bluegrass and country influences.

    Canadian pop icon k.d. lang will also be headlining with her quintet The Siss Boom Bang, as will legendary singer-songwriter Elvis Costello, who will be joined by the Imposters.

    Taking to Canal Stage for the Concert Under the Stars series at downtown's Confederation Park will be Pink Martini, Return to Forever IV, YOUSSOU NDOUR, Paco De Lucia, Lucky Peterson, Bela Fleck & the Original Flecktones and Daniel Lanois' Black Dub,

    Jazzophiles craving a more intimate musical experience will be served at the OIJF's Studio series, hosted by the National Arts Centre Studio. Performers and acts will include the Joshua Redman/Brad Mehldau duo, Christian McBride and Inside Straight, Kenny Wheeler and Kurt Elling.

    Audiences in a more experimental mood can check out the Improv series at the NAC's Fourth Stage, while the OLG Late Night series will feature the 2011 June Award-winning rap artist SHAD.

    The jazz fest runs from June 23 until July 3.
