A farmer in Texas has died after he was stung by a horde of hundreds of bees.

Rogerio Zuniga, 54, a farmer in the town of Lozano, San Benito, was ploughing a field in his tractor when he accidentally hit an irrigation pipe that was full of bees.

Speaking to Valleycentral.com, his sister Lisa explained: ‘He got off the tractor and ran and apparently they caught up to him and he collapsed, and they stung his body to death’.

And while his family rushed over to save him, Rogerio later died from the extent of his horrific injuries.

‘He had gaping wounds, the bees shredded him basically. It was horrible, Lisa added’.

Authorities are now examining ways to exterminate the killer bees, to ensure that such a tragic incident doesn’t occur again.

‘We urge the county to be vigilant and as long as they are responsive to the cries of our community that these bees exist and they are very dangerous to our children and to our loved ones’, Lisa said.

‘We’d like for people to carry the legacy of loving each other and caring for each other when we need it, which is what he lived by and we’d like for him to be remembered that way.’
