Rangeland RV fire near Balzac causes major damage

A large RV business in Balzac north of Calgary was badly damaged by fire early Thursday morning.

Flames were first seen around 1 a.m. MT at Rangeland RV and Trailer Sales.

Rocky View Country firefighters were dispatched from the Balzac fire hall.

The situation was made worse by the challenge of getting water to the site and the number of propane tanks on the property, emergency officials said.

The dealership’s main showroom and service building was heavily damaged, officials said. The fire destroyed much of the building and vehicles inside.

'We'll prevail through this'

"We're a full service RV dealership — so we sell, we service, we sell parts," said owner Dania Filippetto. "The dealership was full of customers' units that need to be repaired. It also was our full show room."

Filippetto is relieved no one was at work at the time.

"You can replace RVs, you replace buildings, things that are inside of it — and we'll prevail through this," she said. "We are probably one of the strongest dealerships in the province and all we can do at this time is look forward."

The company says their phone systems are down, so anyone needing to reach the showroom or repair services should contact them on Twitter, Facebook or through email at sales@rangelandrv.com.

Filippetto says Rangeland RV will look after its customers and is starting to contact them.
