Fire destroys barn on eastern edge of Calgary

Fire crews were called out to the eastern edge of the city early Sunday morning to battle a major blaze.

Reports of a house fire on 17th Avenue and Stoney Trail southeast came in at about 1 a.m., the fire department said.

Because of the volume of visible flames, the captain in command called a second alarm for additional apparatus as the first crew got to the scene, which turned out to be an old barn up in flames.

Firefighters quickly brought the fully involved fire under control, officials said.

There was no damage to the adjacent buildings and no one was injured.

Crews remained on scene overnight putting out hot spots.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
