An early-morning fire destroyed the community hall in Irishtown-Summerside in western Newfoundland's Bay of Islands.
Nobody was injured in the fire, which broke out around 3 a.m. on Thursday.
Flames were powerful enough to be seen across Humber Arm in Corner Brook, where someone saw the blaze and was the first to report it.
The fire department was only 20 metres away from the building, but could not save the building.
The hall housed a number of organizations and groups, including the town council.
No other buildings were damaged.
Police were also on the scene Thursday morning.
