Flu season in Toronto claims 2 lives
Toronto is entering what public health officials are calling peak flu season, which has claimed the lives of two people in the city.
According to Dr. Rupert Kaul, head of infectious diseases at Mount Sinai Hospital, those deaths were elderly patients. However, he says young people are not immune.
"We haven't seen young people dying, but we've certainly seen serious illness in younger people and we don't know yet, of course, the full size of the pandemic for this year."
There are now more than 200 confirmed cases of the flu in Toronto and 76 of those are of the H1N1 strain.
Outside of Toronto, the flu has managed to take the lives of four other people in Ontario.
Flu shots are available at most pharmacies throughout the city.
